Jan Ramming
TRIATHLETE
When Jan finished her 2008 A-race at Ironman Lake Placid amongst the relentless pouring rain in 14:11 hours, finishing 17th in her age group, she proved that she could accomplish anything. Just a few short years before, Jan saw herself as “a woman who was very good at swimming without getting her hair wet.” Not anymore!
Jan has been a runner for 10 years with several marathons to her credit. In 2004, Jan started doing triathlons with her husband George and they worked up to a half Ironman. In January of 2008 she teamed up with Coach Christine Palmquist to accomplish her Ironman goal. From then on every bit of her training was a milestone. Her first 4000m swim, 5000m swim, then her first century on her 50th birthday all monumental accomplishments in her mind.
A positive enthusiastic attitude, joy and dedication to training is what makes her a champion. Jan also credits her supportive family for her accomplishment. Husband George and daughters Claire and Veronica all had to kick in as mom trained 15 hours a week to prepare for this last accomplishment. Jan learned the balance comes from making her training a priority in her life accomplishing most of it very early in the day.
